「パタゴニア」と聞くと、あの有名なアメリカのアウトドアブランドを思い浮かべる人が多いのではないかと思います。パタゴニア地方はチリとアルゼンチンの南部にまたがり、南米大陸最南端までを覆う広大なエリアで、山や氷河など美しい自然に溢れています。中でも私のお気に入りは、アルゼンチン側のエルチャルテンという小さな街。この辺りに日帰りで楽しめるトレイルがたくさんあるんですが、バスやツアーを予約しなくても、街からから徒歩でトレイルの入口まで行けちゃうんです！しかもこのエリアは入場料もなし！つまり無料で登山がし放題なのです。私は一週間ほどここに滞在し、毎日日帰りハイクに出かけていました。
ところでみなさん、写真はフィッツロイという山なのですが、このギザギザ見覚えありませんか？これが、あのブランド「パタゴニア」のロゴになってるギザギザの山なんですよ～。
I’m guessing lots of people think of the famous American outdoor brand when they hear the name “Patagonia.” You might know it as the name of a place, but Patagonia is actually not a mountain or city. It’s the huge region encompassing the southern tip of South America, including parts of both Chile and Argentina. It’s known for its beautiful landscapes, such as dramatic mountain peaks and glaciers. My favorite place there is a small town called El Chalten. It has a number of trails which are great for day hikes. You don’t need to book any transportation or tours to get to the trails, because you can just walk there from the town. And fortunately, you don’t have to pay any entrance fees! So basically, you can enjoy hiking for free in this area! I stayed here for about a week and went hiking every day.
By the way, are you familiar with this jagged mountain in the picture? This mountain, called Fitz Roy, is the mountain used in the Patagonia brand logo.

本日は、みんな大好き『スタンド・バイ・ミー』の有名な台詞をご紹介いたします！もう30年以上も前の作品ですが、ホントにいつ見ても色褪せない名作ですよね！非常にシンプルな少年たちの冒険物語なんですけど、実はそのうちの一人が大人になってから回想している設定で。だからあの１２歳の夏に大切だったことと、そして成長とともに変わっていくことと(必ずしも悪い意味ではなく)、その対比がね、いいんですよね。見る者の“あの頃”の記憶を刺激して、ノスタルジックな気分にさせてくれる作品です。

6月の月刊テーマはDIY! オリジナルデニムを作ろう！
6月の月刊テーマ“DIY” 、最終回はデニムパンツです！ジャケットでもオッケーです！
For the last post of our DIY Wednesday, let’s learn how to design your own denim pants! It’s also fun designing jackets too.
What you need 必要なモノ:
-Acrylic paint アクリル絵の具
-Paint brushes 絵筆
–Fabric Medium
※リンク参照。アクリル絵の具に混ぜると、服用絵の具になるもの。最初から服用絵の具を購入してもいいが、色のバリエーションが少ないです。
-Denim clothing デニムの服
※ストレッチのきいたものではなく、しっかりしたデニム素材のものが好ましいです。特に、大きなデザインを描きたい場合は、薄いものや、簡単に折れるものは避けましょう。 小さなデザインで良ければ、そこまで気にしなくて大丈夫です！
-Iron アイロン
Directions 作り方:
-Fill a cup with water, to rinse off your brushes between colors.
ブラシをすすぐ用の水をカップに用意しましょう
-For your design, If you’re going to paint a large picture, first paint the area white. This will be your first layer.
もし、大きな画を描きたい場合は、最初にその範囲全体を白く塗りましょう。この部分をバックに画を描いていきます。
-Now lightly trace your design in pencil.
鉛筆で、軽くデザインを描きましょう。
-After you have drawn a rough sketch of your design, it’s time to paint!
だいたいのスケッチが終わったら、いよいよ色をつけていきます！
-To prepare your paints just squeeze out the amount you need, mix any colors if you would like. When you’ve gotten the amount and shade you want, mix a small bit of fabric medium in the paint.
絵の具を準備して、必要があれば混ぜて好きな色を作りましょう。必要な色が必要な量だけ用意できたら、ファブリックミディアムをほんの少し混ぜます。
*use a toothpick or the back of your paintbrush to mix, not your brush.*
※混ぜる時は、つまようじや、筆の端(ブラシじゃない方)を使いましょう
*be sure the amount of paint you have is enough for two coats. It’ll be very difficult to get the exact shade if you run out.*
※必ず最初に、十分な量の絵具(2度塗りしても大丈夫なくらい)を用意しましょう。一度切らしてしまうと、全く一緒の色を作り出すのはすごく大変です。
-After each color, let the paint dry for a few minutes, rinsing your brush and moving on to the next color when fully dried.
一色塗終わったら数分待って乾かします。筆をすすぎ、生地が完全に乾いてから、次の色に移ります。
-When you’re done painting let your design dry for 10-20 hours so everything is completely 100% dry.
全て描き終わったら、絵具が完全に乾くまで10-20時間寝かせます。
-Time to heat set! Acrylic paint is made of plastic, so to make it stay on the material and not wash away you have to melt the acrylic plastic to the clothing. Turn your denim clothing inside out and iron the backside of the painting. DO NOT iron on top of the painting itself or you might end up destroying both the painting and the iron. Iron for 5-7 minutes total, about 1 minute at a time. After each minute, stop ironing and let the denim cool down.
最後に熱をあてます！アクリル絵の具はプラスチックなので、洗っても落ちないようにするには、服にしっかりと溶け込ませる必要があります。生地を裏返して、アイロンで熱をあてます。間違っても、絵の具がついている面に直接あてないようにしてください。服もアイロンもどっちもダメになる可能性があります。1分程度アイロンをあてたら、一度熱が冷めるまで時間を置き、再度1分程度アイロンをあててください。合計で5-7分間熱をあてればオッケーです。
-And you’re done!! Enjoy your new denim pants/Jacket!

I went here with friends for my going away party before I moved to Japan. I ordered the rubber ducky cocktail (you can keep the duck) and twinkie/gumball chocolate shake.

今週は、豆電球を使って壁掛けライトを作って見ましょう！
窓の上や机の棚などに飾ってみましょう。キラキラ光るライトが、あなたの部屋を星空のように照らしてくれるはずです✨
This week we’re going to learn how to make hanging fairy light jars!
Hang it above your window, place it on a shelf or on your table. The sparkling lights will make your room look like a starry night sky.
*These DIY directions don’t include the wooden hooks*
この作り方には、後ろの木のボードの部分は含まれません。
What you need 必要なモノ:
-Mason Jar 口の広いガラス瓶
-Fairy lights 豆電球
-Jute twine string 麻紐
-air plant (fake plant is ok too.) エアプラント(フェイクでもOK)
Directions 作り方:
-Take you mason jar and twist the lid off.
ガラス瓶を用意し、蓋をはずします。
–Unwrap the fairy lights and ball them up. The messier the ball the better.
豆電球を取り出し、ボールのように丸めましょう。ぐちゃぐちゃなほどよいです。
-Put the lights in the mason jar. Arrange the lights so the battery pack and switch is at the top of the lights and easy to reach.
豆電球をガラス瓶の中にいれます。簡単につけられるように、スイッチ部分が上にくるようにしましょう。
-Take your brown jute twine string and wrap around the mouth of the jar a few times, as tight as possible. Make one knot and then tie into a bow.
麻紐を瓶の口のところに数週グルっと這わせます。できるだけキツくしましょう。一つ結び目を作ってから、リボン結びにします。
-Take another strip of brown jute twine string and tie one end of the string to the twine wrapped around the jar. The other end of the string is going to be tied to the opposite side of the jar to create a handle.
麻紐をまた別にカットし、両端をそれぞれ対面になるように、今瓶の口に巻いた麻紐に結び付け、ハンドルを作ります。
**It might be difficult to fit the string under the already tight jute wrapped around the mason jar. Use a bobby pin or Q-tip to push the string through if needed.**
既に口の所にキツく巻かれているので、紐を通すのが少し難しいかもしれません。そんな時は、ヘアピンや綿棒などを利用してみてください。
-Place the air plants you like on the top (hanging air plants are my recommendation.)
エアプランツを上に飾りましょう(これは私のオススメです)。
-Hang and enjoy your new lights!

メキシコ、トゥルム Ruins at the beach!
カンクンは多くの旅行者にとって、憧れですよね。メキシコ南西部、ユカタン半島の端に位置するこの街は１年中気候に恵まれており、白い砂浜とターコイズブルーの海は言うまでもなく美しいです。ただし！非常に観光客の多い、パーティータウンだと言う事もお忘れなく！あと、メキシコの基準で考えると全てが高いです…😅パーティーとか好きって人はすごく楽しめると思うんですが、もっとディープなメキシコを楽しみたい方や、単純に予算が限られてるって方にはあまりオススメできません。
カンクンから車で2時間ほどのトゥルムという街も、まぁ似たようなものではあるんですが、カンクンほど混んでなく、また見どころもたくさんあります。一番のオススメはセノーテですね。陥没穴に地下水が溜まってできた天然の泉で、このエリアに無数にあります。ちょっと泳ぎに出かけるのもいいですし、もしスクーバのライセンスがあるって人は洞窟ダイビングが楽しめる場所もあります。私は実際やったんですが、もう最高でした！水が透明すぎて、洞窟の中を飛んでるような感覚に陥ります。
他にも、遺跡などの見どころもあります。もし、トゥルム遺跡(古代マヤ遺跡)に行く時は、水着をお忘れなく！遺跡からちょっと階段を降りれば、すぐそこにカリビアンブルーのビーチも待ってます！
I know that for many travelers Cancun is the dream destination. It’s located in southeastern Mexico, on the edge of the Yucatan Peninsula. The weather is great all year around and the white sandy beaches with turquoise water are undoubtedly beautiful. But remember, it’s a really touristy party place, and expensive too (compared to the other parts of Mexico)😅 Well, if you are a party person, you’ll have a lot of fun. But if you are seeking some kind of authentic experience in Mexico or just simply on a budget, you might want to consider going somewhere else.
Tulum, the city that is a two-hour drive away from Cancun is kind of the same, but less busy and has more things to see. The most refreshing thing to do here is to take a dip in an under water sinkhole, called “cenote”. There are dozens of cenotes in the area and if you are a scuba diver, you can also do a cavern dive at some of them. I did it and it was amazing! Since the water is incredibly clear, you feel like you’re flying in the cave.
There is also an archeological site you might want to check out. If you visit the Tulum ruins (the ancient Mayan ruins), don’t forget to bring your swimsuit! The beautiful Caribbean beach is also waiting for you, just a few steps down from the site.
