Vocabulary

To promote (verb); support or actively encourage (a cause, venture, etc.); further the progress of.

Examples

  1. In Japan you can often see Pharmacy employees promoting sales outside the shop.
  2. Samsung is really promoting their new smart phone.
  3. Q. How would you like us to promote the new functions on the smart phone?

To emphasize (verb); special importance, value, or prominence given to something.

Examples

  1. I must emphasis how important safety is.
  2. My boss always emphasizes professionalism in everything we do.
  3. Q. Don’t you think they are emphasizing quantity over quality?

今回のためになる英語は、” I can’t stand ~”で、日本語の意味は「~は我慢できない」、「~は耐えられない」となります。動詞 stand の「立つ」とは全く関係ない意味になりますので、こちらはフレーズとして覚えて下さいね。

A: Do you have any plans this summer ?
(今年の夏の予定はある?)

B:I’m planning on going to Karuizawa.
(軽井沢に行く計画をしているよ。)

A: Oh, yeah? That sounds very nice!
(そうなの?すごくいいね)

B: Summer in Tokyo is terrible. I can’t stand the heat in the city.

Frank has been working for Benny Shoga marketing company for over 20 years. He’s spent most of this time in the advertising department helping create Ads for various companies around Japan.

Vocabulary

Marketing (noun/ adjective); the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.

Examples

  1. Coca Cola has changed its marketing strategy to a united global message. The new slogan is “taste the feeling.’
  2. Nike’s marketing has been so successful that it owns 96% of the basketball footwear market.
  3. Q. Have you ever seen the commercials for Boss coffee that have Tommy Lee
    Jones in them? Boss canned coffee has been using Tommy lee Jones as part of their marketing campaign since 2006.

Advertising (noun); the activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services.  Ad. (noun); an advertisement.

Examples

  1. I have heard that BIRDMAN is one of the most famous advertising companies in Japan.
  2. There’s a lot of advertising on You Tube nowadays. Often we have to watch an Ad before we can watch the video.
  3. Q. Have you seen the Amazon recommended ads that come up when you are doing searches on line? It’s kind of scary I think.

今回のためになる英語は、as far as~ is concerned です。日本語の意味は、“~となると、~に関しては” となります。自分の意見を言う時に使える表現です。

Nik: No, i don’t usually watch baseball. As far as sports are concerned, I prefer watching ice hockey.
(見てないよ。僕、あんまり野球を見ないんだよね。スポーツといったら、アイスホッケーを見る方が好きかな。)

Tom:Oh, You are from Canada so that doesn’t surprise me.
(そっかぁ。君はカナダ出身だから、そんなに驚かないけど。)

今回のためになる英語は、”Keep  in mind that ….” です。

・・・(that 以下)は覚えておいてね。心に留めておいてね”という意味になります。

 

Teacher : It seems that we have to cancel the marathon today due to bad weather.

先生:(天気が悪いから今日のマラソンは中止しなくちゃだね。)

Student : Yay, we don’t have to run! Running is the worst.

生徒:(やったー!走らなくていいって。走るの一番嫌だもん。)

Teacher : Okay, but keep in mind that you are going to have to run sometime next week.

先生:(オッケー、でも来週のどこかで必ず走らなきゃいけないことは覚えておくように。)

Vocabulary
