Mameshiba Puppy

I went to Lalaport in Funabashi the other day and of course I had to stop in at the pet shop. The next thing I know, the staff stuffed a Mameshiba into my arms. She was so cute but SO expensive.

本日は、ハリウッドで活躍する台湾出身のアン・リー監督の作品からご紹介します！

作家性が薄いなんて言われる程、なんでも撮っちゃうアン・リー監督。緑の巨人が暴れまくる『ハルク/Hulk』の後に監督したのがこの『ブロークバック・マウンテン』です。美しい自然を背景に、二人のカウボーイ、イニスとジャックの20年に渡る禁断の愛を描いた、それはもう傑作です！舞台は60年代～80年代のワイオミング州。ゲイカップルには大変生きづらい時代でした。

台詞は、隠れて会うしかない二人の関係に疲れたジャックがイニスに放った一言。

I wish＋仮定法過去
～だったらいいのに
I wishの使い方は色々ありますが、後に続く節を過去形にすることで、現在における(実現の可能性が低い)願望を表現します。過去形ですが現在の願望なので注意してください。

例：I wish you could understand my feelings.
(君に私の気持ちがわかればなあ)

例：I wish I were a millionaire.
(億万長者だったらなあ)

※I wishの後の文では、be動詞の場合、主語が何であれ、wasではなくwereになります。実際には口語だとwasを使っている人も多いですが。

How to＋動詞の原形
～する方法
この台詞の場合はhow to quit(＝やめる) youなので、直訳すると「あなたをやめる方法」です。この状況での自然な訳としては「あなたを諦める方法」や「あなたと別れる方法」といったところでしょうか。

例：I don’t know how to get through this.

　　(どうやってこれを乗り切ったらいいのかわからない)

※get through　　(困難などを)乗り切る

A cute puppy tries to go down some stairs. Oh no.

In January, I hung out with my friends in Harajuku. We went to a couple of small galleries. When we were walking, we saw this knight that seemed to be guarding a shipping container. Above the knight, was a crack in the wall. In the crack was a clock. I think the knight is a time traveler. And he’s guarding a time machine inside the shipping container. What do you think?

はじめまして。AYAMIです。これから不定期で、私の好きな映画の中から、台詞をピックアップして紹介していきたいと思います。映画史に残る名台詞や、個人的に好きな台詞、日常生活でよく使う台詞など、ランダムに紹介していきます。

記念すべき第一回は、私が大好きなコーエン兄弟監督作品の中でも、一番好きな作品の、一番好きなシーンからご紹介します！コメディやサスペンス、スリラーなどを得意とし、これらの要素を絶妙に混ぜ込んだ数々の名作を生み出してきた彼らですが、この作品は少しテイストが異なります。コメディ要素ゼロ、台詞も少なめ、音楽も最小限に抑えられ、物語は静かに淡々と、しかし得体の知れない緊迫感で観る者を圧倒します。一瞬の隙もないコーエン兄弟の最高傑作。
